dc.description.abstractLa multiculturidad, en educación, pretende abrir una perspectiva de reconocimiento y respeto por la diferencia. En ese escenario, postulado por Colombia en su Constitución de 1991, la Cátedra de Estudios Afrocolombianos pretende abrir un espacio para que en las escuelas y colegios del país se hable de la historia, los valores y las costumbres de la población afrocolombiana. Sin embargo, a más de dos décadas de su instauración, mucho se ha señalado la dificultad para que la Cátedra rinda resultados. En ese contexto, este trabajo revisa las percepciones de estudiantes, padres de familia y docentes de una institución respecto a la Cátedra, actividad que permite indagar en asuntos más profundos como la dificultad para convivir con las diferencias entre personas. Para el trabajo se empleó un mural de situaciones y entrevistas en profundidad con padres de familia y docentes. Es una investigación cualitativa, exploratoria, realizada en dos momentos: el deductivo, donde se analizan los datos de las entrevistas y el mural a partir de las categorías identificadas en la revisión de literatura; el inductivo, donde se revisan los datos a la luz de la pregunta por lo imaginario y la otredad, lugar donde se argumenta que existen las mayores dificultades para reconocer al otro. Las conclusiones muestran con claridad que, pese a que el discurso reconoce la importancia de la diversidad, en la praxis cuesta integrarla en las interacciones cotidianas.spa
