dc.description.abstractHistóricamente los campesinos del corregimiento de Santa Elena, Medellín han cultivado una gran diversidad de flores que desde el siglo XIX eran llevadas a la zona urbana de Medellín junto con otros productos agrícolas, los cuales se comercializaban en las diferentes calles de esta ciudad en plena etapa de crecimiento. De estos productos era sorprendente ver el colorido florístico que hasta el momento los desconocidos silleteros cargaban en sus espaldas en símbolo del tesón y de un vínculo insondable con la tierra. Con el crecimiento demográfico y urbanístico de Medellín los silleteros empezaron a quedar relegados y casi ocultos en una metrópolis en formación. En ese momento hace aproximadamente 50 años la Alcaldía les propuso a los campesinos de Santa Elena que ancestralmente habían cultivado y comercializado sus flores en Medellín emprender un proyecto en conjunto, para resaltar su papel histórico en las dinámicas socioeconómicas de la ciudad y así poder resaltar en la población sus costumbres culturales. De esta forma el arraigo cultural de estos campesinos ha sido mostrado con una gran diversidad de formas, colores y arreglos florísticos en el tradicional Desfile de Silleteros. Sin embargo, la ancestralidad en las técnicas implementadas por los productores silleteros para obtener flores de buena calidad y amigables con el medio ambiente se ha ido perdiendo por la invasión cultural de nuevas tecnologías, por el relevo generacional que cada vez es menor y por diferentes factores socioeconómicos. Además, la propagación de plantas con potencial ornamental ha quedado de lado en muchos de los casos y los silleteros se han inclinado por la compra de especies diferentes a las que durante muchos años han mostrado en sus maravillosas silletas. Por tal motivo el objetivo de este trabajo fue desarrollar una cartilla ilustrada donde se dé a conocer a los silleteros las principales formas de propagar especies ornamentales nativas, tipos de sustratos que se pueden usar y técnicas agroecológicas de manejo en viveros, basadas en un previo entendimiento de diferentes conocimientos ancestrales aportados por los silleteros. De esta forma se podrá promover la recuperación de ese arraigo cultural silletero y estimular la participación de nuevas generaciones en el mantenimiento de esta tradición.es_ES
