| spa |
dc.description.abstractenglish | For decades, vegetarianism has been considered a style of eating, which is made up of plant foods and according to the type of vegetarianism dairy, eggs and / or a diet based solely on plants can be included or excluded (Fig. , 2015). In pregnancy, due to all the biological and physiological processes experienced by the fetus and the mother, the energy and nutrient requirements are increased by the metabolic demands of the baby, both in pregnancy and in lactation. That is, the diet must be balanced, varied and planned according to the tastes and / or beliefs of the mother; along with a constant practice of physical activity according to their condition (Brosa et al., 2019). This is why a healthy diet during pregnancy has been recognized for centuries as key to the well-being of the mother and the fetus. Vegetarian diets have gained increasing interest, primarily because they can protect against the chronic diseases most closely related to "overeating" in the developed and developing world, including the variety of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity. Well-balanced, varied, and controlled plant-based diets in pregnancy are nutritionally safe (Piccoli et al., 2017). According to the American Dietetic Association, these well-combined diets can provide all the energy and nutrients necessary to achieve proper body function, ensuring proper growth and development. That is, they are suitable during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence (Melina et al., 2016). The vegetarian diet to speak in pregnant or lactating women has given much of what for years, because there is great concern that the elimination of food from animal sources can bring nutritional deficiencies and cause damage to the well-being and health of the mother and the child . The vegetarian diet has become very popular in recent years and those who choose it are justified by environmental issues, religion, health reasons or ethical issues, although this type of diet has many health benefits, it should be noted that due to possible nutritional deficiencies Severe before and during gestation, different affectations can occur such as congenital malformations, low birth weight, premature birth, risk of neonatal mortality, among others (Brosa et al., 2019). | spa |
