| spa |
dc.description.abstractenglish | The issue of martyrdom, in this thoughtful article, analyzes the perspective that has emerged nowadays: if life is considered as a divine gift, could martyrdom be conceived as a suicide? To resolve this question, it is necessary to review and clarify the true essence of martyrdom. For this purpose, it is essential to use the dogmatic method that will focus --from positive theology—on the analysis of data, statements and the different communications of the magisterium on martyrdom; the Christian vision of martyrdom, as well as its composition and progress to throughout history; and how the magisterium of the church has conceived and defined it. The psychological positions that propose martyrdom as suicide are also observed and the concepts of each of these are clarified. This way it is possible to concluded that the difference between martyrdom and suicide lies in the fact that the martyr, identifies a divine meaning to his transcendent reality reflected in a generous dedication, as a witness of God's love; witnesses for the church and for men, by demonstrating with love and hope, faith, and determination to something greater. On the other hand, the suicidal person goes through different phases. He or she has the real and latent desire to die, initially they attack their body by deliberately injuring themselves. In these people a negative cognitive state is evidenced and emotionally they do not remain stable, because they do not find meaning either close nor remote to continue their existence. In this thesis lies the real difference between one and the other. Martyrdom is a gift from God that can be accepted but not sought by the believing Christian. It is granted to certain people as a call to give a testimony of faith. | eng |
