| spa |

dc.description.abstractenglish | Zinc oxide (ZnO) has been widely used in animal supplementation to treat diarrhea; It also serves as a growth promoter and has a positive effect on the intestinal mucosa that favors the animal's immune system. To evaluate the effect of the addition of ZnO in the diet of calves, on parameters such as average daily gain (ADG), percentage of fecal dry matter (% FDM), intestinal parasites, and complete blood count, a study was carried out. A completely randomized design with a total of 16 calves with an average age and weight of 60 days and 62 kg, respectively. The means of the ADG, stool, and blood count variables were compared between treatments using the t-student test with a significance level of 5%, and the FDM % was analyzed by repeated measures. The supplementation of calves with ZnO at a rate of 0.0005% of the live weight (LW) in the diet, favored the increase in the percentage of lymphocytes and the significant reduction of neutrophils in the blood. In addition, it favored the increase in feces DM, without significantly affecting the ADG, stool, percentages of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, VCM, HCM, and MCHC. Despite this, including ZnO significantly decreased calves' growth performance. | spa |
