The present work aims to investigate the Christian meaning of the disease; taking as reference the pericope of the Gospel of Saint John 9,1-5. The approaches and reflections of: in a first historical milestone, we have the Spanish doctor Pedro Laín Entralgo with his anthropological approach in his renowned text Mysterium Doloris; in the theological sphere the Vatican Council II, in the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes and the Apostolic Letter Salvifici Doloris of Saint John Paul II. In summary, the points that are discussed are the following: 1. Chapter I: Anthropological conception of the disease in the Old and New Testaments. The aspects that are treated and taking into account some of the interpretations of a biblical nature made by specialists, refer to the contextualization of the meaning of the disease, which was had in the primitive superior cultures such as Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China and later in Hellenic culture. 3. Chapter II: Resignification of the disease in the pericopa of the man born blind: Different authors give a broad meaning to the fourth Gospel and note the diversity of settings in which each one places the public life of Jesus. The fourth Gospel presupposes the existence of some communities and various hypotheses about the evolution of the Johannine community. The gospel of the signs that are "the works of the Father" that make manifest the divine glory of Jesus is exposed. Finally, the theological path of disease; where applied to daily life the finite and fragile character of the human being is revealed.eng
